About the Opportunity

An established and growing wealth management firm in Indianapolis is seeking an experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to help build and lead a tax services division within its practice.

The firm serves high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners, providing comprehensive financial planning, investment management, and wealth management services. As part of its continued commitment to delivering a coordinated client experience, the firm is exploring the addition of in-house tax services.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced CPA who enjoys working closely with clients, values a collaborative environment, and is excited about the opportunity to help shape and grow a new division within an established advisory practice.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Planning & Client Advisory

  • Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services to high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, and business owners.
  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation and review of complex individual, business, trust, and estate tax returns.
  • Identify tax-efficient strategies related to investments, retirement distributions, charitable giving, estate planning, and wealth transfers.
  • Partner with financial advisors to integrate tax considerations into clients' overall financial plans.
  • Monitor changes in federal and state tax regulations and communicate relevant planning opportunities to clients and the advisory team.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for clients on complex tax matters and long-term planning decisions.

Practice Development & Leadership

  • Play a key role in establishing and developing the firm's CPA and tax services division.
  • Help evaluate and implement tax preparation software, technology, workflows, and internal procedures.
  • Develop consistent processes for tax preparation, review, client communication, and document management.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to establish the service offering, pricing structure, and long-term growth strategy.
  • Help identify future staffing needs and participate in building the tax services team as the practice grows.
  • Establish quality-control standards and ensure adherence to applicable professional and regulatory requirements.

Client Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with high-net-worth clients through personalized, responsive service.
  • Participate in client meetings alongside financial advisors to provide tax expertise and planning recommendations.
  • Explain complex tax matters in a clear, approachable manner.
  • Coordinate with clients' attorneys and other professional advisors when appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities to provide additional value through integrated tax and financial planning.

Qualifications

Required

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in public accounting, tax planning, or a related field.
  • Strong technical knowledge of individual, business, trust, and estate taxation.
  • Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and business owners.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex tax engagements independently.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-management skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Experience in a wealth management, family office, or financial advisory environment.
  • Prior experience leading a tax team or managing a book of tax clients.
  • Familiarity with investment-related tax strategies, including capital gains planning, Roth conversions, charitable giving, and estate planning.
  • Experience implementing tax software, workflows, and operational processes.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and interest in helping grow a new service line.

What Makes This Opportunity Unique

This is not simply a traditional tax preparation role. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to help develop a tax services offering within an established financial advisory firm.

Rather than operating independently of the financial planning process, the CPA will work collaboratively with advisors to help clients make more informed decisions across their financial lives.

The ideal candidate will enjoy both the technical side of tax planning and the relationship-building side of working with clients. They will be comfortable taking ownership, developing processes, and helping create a service offering that can grow alongside the firm.

The firm offers the opportunity to join an established wealth management practice and play a meaningful role in developing a new division.

Additional benefits and compensation details will be discussed during the interview process.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a genuine interest in helping clients navigate complex financial decisions.

Most importantly, this individual should be excited about the opportunity to build something, collaborate with an experienced advisory team, and help create a seamless experience for high-net-worth clients.
